How To Repair Cards Damaged in One Touch Holders

Introduction

In this tutorial, we will explore how to fix damage to cards stored in One Touch holders using humidity and Kurt’s Card Care Tool. By following these steps, you can effectively restore your cards and ensure they are in top condition for grading.

Step 1: Prepare Your Workspace

Step 2: Open the One Touch Holder

  • Carefully open the sealed One Touch holder

    • Pry open the edges gently.

    • Avoid using excessive force to prevent further damage to the card.

  • Once open, handle the card by the edges to minimize the risk of fingerprints or scratches.

Step 3: Assess the Damage

  • Inspect the card thoroughly for any visible damage

    • Look for warping, creases, or other imperfections.

    • Take note of the specific areas that need repair.

Step 4: Apply Humidity

  • Use your humidor

    • Work in short time intervals- Thin paper cards usually an hour at a time. Prizm style and thinker cards can go in for 3 hours or more at a time. Just keep an eye on it. You dont want it to curl.

    • After the humidity session move to step 5

Step 5: Use Kurt’s Card Care Tool for Edges

  • With the card now slightly humidified, use Kurt’s Card Care Tool

    • Gently press and smooth out any creases or warping.

    • Work carefully around the edges to avoid further damage.

  • Repeat the humidity application if necessary, but be cautious not to over-saturate the card to avoid curling

Step 6: Dry the Card

  • After repairs are made, it is essential to dry the card

    • Place it in a safe, dry area away from direct sunlight.

    • Allow it to dry completely before re-sealing in a card sleeve.

Conclusion

By following these steps, you can effectively repair and preserve your cards stored in One Touch holders. Regularly checking your card storage and using humidity to manage potential damage can save you from costly mistakes when grading. For future card care, consider using protective sleeves and storing cards in climate-controlled environments to prevent moisture-related issues. Happy collecting!
