How to Fix Cards Damaged in Screw Cases

Step 1: Assess the Damage

  • Carefully remove the card from the screw case to evaluate the extent of the damage.

  • Look for

    • Flattened, elongated corners

    • Shiny corners that have lost the normal card texture.

  • Use Good Lighting: Ensure you’re in a well-lit area to spot subtle imperfections easily or add additional lighting to your workspace.


Practical Tip: Use a scope to inspect for subtle imperfections that may not be immediately visible.


Step 2: Gather Required Tools

  • Open the Screw Case

  • Handle with Care: Always hold the card by the edges to avoid fingerprints or oils from your hands.





Step 4: Address Flattened Cards

  • Tap Kurt’s Card Care Spray on the damaged corners, both front and back.

  • Make a “card sandwich” using the card mats, plexiglass discs and clamps.

  • Leave it for 24 hours to allow the card corners to return to original shape.

  • Compare the restored card to another card from the base set to assess the progress.

  • Repeat, if needed.



Step 5: Store Properly After Restoration

  • Once restored, store the card in a protective sleeve or a top-loader.

  • Avoid placing the card back in a screw case, as it may cause damage again.

  • Keep the card in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.+
